ABBEY CBS 1-15
ST MARY'S BELFAST 3-3
Abbey CBS ploughed on through into the quarter-finals with an impressive victory over St Mary's Belfast.
Patrick Quinn had an excellent game scoring a personal tally of 1-3 in the first half with Hudson, Cunninghan(2) and Lorcan Quinn also taking scores.
Ryan Hudson's first half effort was almost a goal but he couldn't keep his shot low and it was blazed over the bar.
Cunningham's second score was an excellent one as he used his trademark pace before taking a fine score on his left foot.
Lorcan Quinn's effort was a powerful drive and finish, busting past three men in the process.
Patrick Quinn's goal was quite cheeky as he slowed to walking pace, dummied with his left then his right before casually passing the ball into the net.
St Mary's managed to score 2-2 in the first half. Their goal from their corner forward was straight off the training ground with a short free kick and a turn and shot while the Abbey defence fell asleep.
The second goal was a lung bursting run from McClelland form deep as he leapt above James McClean in midfield and scored a good individual effort. The half time score was 1-7 to 2-2.
In the second half both Quinn's were at it again for the Abbey and scored points from the start while McCrory cup debutant, Piaras Murdock, took a nice point from a reasonable range. Patrick Quinn's left and right foot were both lethal in this second half as he took three more points for himself.
St Mary's scored a goal through the sheer heroics from their goalkeeper. The daring shot stopper ran almost two thirds of the pitch before setting up a pass which lead to a goal. Excellent eccentricity from the goalkeeper. Brilliant stuff.
St Mary's also added a point through their powerhouse centre-half forward but David Hudson was having a very good game on him and kept him quiet most of the game.
Abbey speed demon Oisin Lynch caused many problems in the forward line and won a few vital free's for the accurate Quinn to stick over the bar.
The Abbey hope to continue their form in their next game and are delighted to have qualified whereas a promising St Mary's side have not lived up to their potential in this campaign.
